Resveratrol Sources

The most common source of reseveratrol is in the seeds and skin of many common types of grapes, including those used in wine making. Many traditional health foods such as blueberries also contain the compound, in addition to peanuts, soy beans, pomegranate and cranberries. Today, most individuals either consume the product through red wine or supplements, which commonly are derived from the concentrated amounts found in Knotweed root.

Red wine is considered the most favorable source, as it can contain up to 12 milligrams per liter in certain Spanish wines, relatively to less than 1 milligram in White Wine and even less in peanuts and berries. In fact, many people consume grapes for the very same reason, as their skins and seeds are the primary source of the nutrient. There are other lesser known fruits, such as mulberries, which have been shown to be an effective source as well, although they are commonly incorporated into dietary supplements rather than consumed directly.

The Pinot Noir grape variety is a particularly rich source of resveratrol, making certain fine French wines a prime choice for those seeking maximum health benefits. Grape juice also contains the compound, although in lower concentrations, as a by-product of the processing. Most standard grape juice sources, therefore, lack the potency that is found in more carefully produced wine or in supplements which are designed for maximum potency. Any form of heating will generally degrade the compound to the point where its potency is much less effective than it otherwise would have been; most store-bought juices, therefore, have a relatively low level of the compound. Those looking for the most effective source, therefore, should consider Japanese Knot Weed supplements along with French Saint Laurent Red Wines, which are known as some of the richest sources of resveratrol.
